“Wright a Play”

Playwriting workshop, with Jack Healy of Theatre Makers.

Twenty hours over ten weeks, starting Tuesday, Sept. 29th. 8p.m.

Cost: €200.00

The workshop is suitable for beginners, or for those who have some experience of writing. The approach lies heavily on the sometimes unrealised use we make of story in the conduct of our daily lives and promotes the excitement that can be drawn from the stories we make for ourselves.

While acknowledging the virtue of the literary, it also looks at ways of developing dramatic narrative that lie outside the confines of the literary domain and puts play ‘wrighting’ in the context of other art forms such as visual art, music and dance.

The workshop initiates the participant into the development of a safe, private studio space within which creative hunches can be explored and developed and turn looks at what is involved in mediating the results into the public domain.

Jack Healy is a Cork based playwright and actor. He is the founder of Theatre Makers Ltd. Recent work includes Shostakovich, at the Curtis Auditorium of the Cork School of Music as part of the Cork Midsummer Festival; the highly successful childrens’ play, Aesop’s Fabulous Foibles and Fables (with George Hanover, after Aesop). Another play for children, The Man in the Moon  (with Enda Walshe, based on a story of Jack’s) was premiered at the Deptford Studio Theatre in London earlier this year.

Jack has an extensive teaching experience especially on projects which involve script development. He worked on the development of two pieces of performance art at the Art Dept. of WIT; Unpainted Pictures and Wrapartee.  He facilitates the Working Actors’ Workshop with Theatre Makers which has given rise to new scripts: They Never Froze Walt Disney by Jody O’Neill and Aesop’s Fabulous Foibles and Fables.
