Directed by Jack Healy this production of ‘They Never Froze Walt Disney’ premiered in the Cork Midsummer Festival where it was warmly received by audiences and critics alike during a week-long run.
This darkly comic piece traces the lives of Marie (Jody O’Neill) and Paudie (John McCarthy), from the 1960’s to present day, flashing between their first encounters and the highly suspicious circumstances that reunite them many years later.

Theatre Makers at Work.
Underscoring all that happens in theatre, especially for those who work in it, is the promise of a particular type of excitement. What is that? What happens when theatre works?
When it does, we know that the fixed designations into which we are born and grow; need not be prisons in which we are stuck but rather platforms from which we can view the full spectrum of cosmic possibility.
We think of theatre as a minority interest and yet, the essence of theatre art is innate to the human condition. We may live our lives broadly adhering to a consistency of name and face, but in truth we are constantly required to navigate the sometimes uncertain –but potentially very exciting-seas of personal transformation.
For that reason, when we see actors in the essence of their art, we truly know and appreciate what it is they are doing.
Theatre Makers Ltd.
Theatre Makers is a new company which undertakes to explore and build on the organic needs for the theatrical, the dramatic and the narrative that are innate to the dynamic of the human spirit.
In this context the companies commitment is to the production of theatre art to the highest standard and to deal in the idea of what a profoundly delightful wholesome phenomenon the theatre experience can be.
The company will strive to bring about an exciting marriage of the narrative and the theatrical in a context which gives the theatre event itself primacy over the various creative strands which serve it.
The Actor’s art.
The company acknowledges all creative strands in the collaborative process, but it proceeds on the basis of a special investigation of the actors art as the one most immediate to the theatre experience.
The Working Actors Workshop.
Within existing theatre practice, directors and to a lesser extent, playwrights are the primary creative initiators.Actors are enlisted onto their projects through the casting system.
This has given rise to theatre making mechanisms which often leave actors feeling disempowered and alienated from the heart of the creative process.
The Working Actors Workshop is an initiative taken by Theatre Makers which is available to working actors It investigates the nature of the actors art and introduces the concept of empowerment through creative initiation to the actors involved.
The workshop has been up and running on a weekly basis since last October. It has already enjoyed success with its Fast Theatre Events at the Triskel Art Centre during the month of February of this year.
; They Never Froze Walt Disney by Jody O’Neill goes to the public as part of The Cork Midsummer Festival. (June 25th - 30th. 1pm. Unitarian Church. Princes St.)
